No Sung Jingles for Radio 1 Breakfast Show
When Nick Grimshaw takes over from Chris Moyles on BBC Radio 1 Breakfast on September 24th, Radio 1 are going to close the door on the station’s jingle history.
In the brief Radio 1 released for the new show imaging, the guidelines are clear – “steer clear of sung jingles and variants of Breakfast themes and identities past and present“.
The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw launches in late September. We are looking to commission a strong sonic identity for it.
The new Breakfast Show will sound young, exciting, big and confident. It needs to stand out and not sound like any previous BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Shows.
The new theme will need to sound slickly produced and original, including a significant element of live instrumentation and an identifying motif (logo).
Please steer clear of sung jingles and variants of Breakfast themes and identities past and present.
* update* The following line should be included in the imaging – ‘The Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Nick Grimshaw’ – Please use a voice you think would be appropriate.
Since 2004 when Chris Moyles started on Radio 1 Breakfast, the show was never without jingles from Music 4. He opened with this jingle song paying homage to breakfast presenters of the past.
And had it updated in 2009 to celebrate 5 years on Breakfast.
This comes are no surprise to some as over the last few years as Radio 1 have moved away from jingles on other shows to spoken sweepers and liners, and Chris actually highlighted in a jingle!
The Brand New Chessy Song must have been sung in over 20 versions too.
